Woo! That was a nice, solid win last night.
Nothing special. Just a good old-fashioned victory. Those are nice to have every now and then. And, speaking of old-fashioned. Or to be more straight up, “old.”
Carsten. Charles. Sabathia. 38 years old. But the way this guy has been pitching, we should say he is 38 years YOUNG. Because CC has been nothing short of remarkable.

In these last 3 years especially, this late-career Renaissance for the Big Guy has been fucking incredible. The man has been so money, call him Alexander Hamilton.
Side note: I still haven’t seen Hamilton on Broadway. If any of you guys have a nice ticket connection, and want to hook your boy up, slide in those DM’s of mine. You would be THE BEST. Probably a long shot, but hey, why not try? Shooters shoot.
Seriously though, I love CC. He has risen towards the top of my favorite Yankees in my lifetime, and that is no bullshit. I run a tight list, but CC is way too much of a true blue gamer to keep him off of it!
After starting off this year with some stellar starts, he began to waver a bit during the month of May. However, he has been able to stabilize himself, as of late, and get back to producing some quality starts. And last night was one of these!
5.2 IP, 4 hits, 0 ER, 3 K’s.
It would have been awesome for him to pitch a full 6-inning shutout. You know he wanted that. But at 101 pitches, and giving up that single with 2 outs, it made sense for Boonie to go with Chad Green.
Nevertheless, 5 2/3 innings of shutout baseball at 38?! That is amazing! CC, baby, you have found the Fountain of Youth, my friend.
Hmm, maybe he actually has? I always thought that Ponce de Leon guy was a sketchy individual. And here is something that I never thought would happen: I was able to work Ponce de Leon into a Yankees blog. Now THAT takes some skill, ladies and gents.
At his advanced, retirement-home-ready, age (just kidding CC), a legend like Carsten Charles is going to be barreling through the record books – its a given. Last night, he reached the impressive milestone of 1,500 strikeouts in a Yankees uniform! By the way, he joined some VERY impressive company.
CC Sabathia's 3rd strikeout tonight was the 1,500th he's had as a member of the Yankees. He's the 5th pitcher in team history to reach that milestone, joining Andy Pettitte, Whitey Ford, Ron Guidry and Red Ruffing.
Awesome accomplishment! LET’S GO CC
He is also just a little more than 100 K’s away from the big one: 3,000 career strikeouts…whoa. There is a chance he will get there this year, so we’ll have to wait and see if that happens!
Last night also secured the 241st win of his illustrious career. As a guy who loves to see milestones reached, I really hope that CC sticks it out until he reaches 300 wins. However, I know that probably wouldn’t happen in a Yankees uniform, because I do not think our dark wizard GM would throw millions at a 42 year old CC.
I know you guys must be thinking, “whoa Johnny, you have the vocabulary to use a world like ‘illustrious’?!” Yep, I do guys. I’m not as dumb as I sometimes act, I promise you that. More often than not, I’m just trying to be funny. Spoiler alert. Even though I usually fail at trying to be funny…
But, even if Cashman doesn’t hold onto our guy, I would cheer for him to make it to 300 hits at whatever destination he goes to next. Even Boston…fuck…now I’m picturing CC in a Red Sox jersey and it makes me really pissed.
Just kidding! If CC does play for another team after us, I highly HIGHLY doubt he would go to them. Anyways, sorry for the CC rant! Let’s get back to the game.
While CC was throwing a gem, it was time for a COMEBACK.
DIDIIIIIIII!! HE’S BACK
Didi “Everyone’s favorite Knight” Gregorious returned with a vengeance last night. After hitting a whopping 10 homers in April, and only 1 in May, he has already surpassed last month’s total!
He hit not one, BUT TWO, dingers last night. Andddd, here they are:

So two solo shots for #18 last night and damn, that was great to see.
Didi is such an enjoyable player to watch. And him being so fun, made it an absolute bummer watching him slump recently. With 5 hits in his last 11 at bats, I pray that this is truly the return of Sir Mariekson Gregorious.
We need you, Didi. Please stay for good.
Besides Didi’s two homers, our other run came courtesy of the best backup catcher in Major League Baseball.
Yep, Austin “Row Row Row Your Boat” Romine, hit a sacrifice fly in the same inning as Didi’s first trip around the bases.
Pro tip: If you give up 2 runs to the Yankees with “Locked-in CC” on the bump, you’re going to have a bad time. That is just a statement of fact.
Well, there wasn’t much more action, besides what I’ve already recapped. Like I said, it just was a nice and simple dub.
After CC’s night was done, Chad, Dellin, and Chapman continued the shutout.
Oh yeah, speaking of Didi being back…DELLIN IS BACK! I’m calling it now! And boy, did we miss him. Check out his last 8 relief appearances:

And you wanna her something crazy? Chappie didn’t have one of his Classic Chappie performances!
Every now and then, he doesn’t walk a guy, hit a guy, or give up a base-hit. These don’t happen all the time, but they sure are a welcome site.
1-2-3 inning for Chappie as he got his 18th save of the year.
Tonight is the final of this quick, 2-game set vs Washington, before we welcome the hapless Rays into town.
